George and Olga
Like the majority of the world, lockdown meant that I had a lot of time at home, and although I was working throughout it all, I was able to spend more time doing things I enjoyed; it gave me the time to faff in the house whereas I normally wouldn't have. I got hooked onto the Instagram craze of sourdough, it having been something I'd always wanted to have a go at and master, and although I still haven't quite done so, I still find it extremely satisfying and exciting to make bread from just 3 ingredients (flour, salt and water)!

I created George (named after my Grandad) and I was hooked. George is my sourdough starter, which you can find the recipe for in the Starter section! The first attempt was a recipe I found in a Paul Hollywood book, and George didn't last long and sadly died ... a tip here would be to not name your sourdough after your deceased Granparents...

After the first failure, reading several books, AND scouring YouTube I created another George who worked a treat, and then from him created Olga (named after my Nanna and still going strong).
Sadly George took a turn for the worst, and I realised that keeping 2 sourdough starters didn't make sense in terms of space, time and effort. So George turned black... and was binned. He has been reused as a jar for chutneys and is doing well.

So from Olga is where the recipes, tips and techniques are from, and if you have any questions please just ask. Although, so far I can only tell you what hasn't QUITE worked yet!
